The Department of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation at the University of Utah Spencer Fox Eccles School of Medicine and Craig H. Neilsen Rehabilitation Hospital is announcing several new and updated leadership appointments that will strengthen its research, clinical care, education, innovation, and faculty development missions. These roles reflect ongoing efforts to align departmental structure with areas of growth and collaboration across the academic enterprise.
As part of this transition, the department extends its sincere appreciation to Colby Hansen, MD, for his service as Interim Vice Chair of Research. During his tenure, Dr. Hansen provided thoughtful leadership and helped support the continued growth of the department's research enterprise. His contributions have helped establish a strong foundation for future success.
To further strengthen the department's research mission, Jacob George, PhD and Zachary McCormick, MD, have been appointed Co-Vice Chairs of Research.
The new dyad model is designed to integrate academic discovery with clinical translation and foster collaboration across disciplines.
Dr. George will lead academic research integration efforts, strengthening partnerships across engineering, rehabilitation science, neuroscience, bionics, and other university research programs. Dr. McCormick will focus on clinical research strategy, advancing clinical trials, registries, industry collaborations, and research embedded within patient care.
Together, they will guide departmental research priorities, infrastructure development, strategic investments, and collaborative initiatives that support the department's nationally recognized programs in rehabilitation science and innovation.
Alexandra Terrill, PhD has been appointed Vice Chair for Faculty Affairs and Faculty Development.
In this role, Dr. Terrill will lead efforts focused on faculty mentorship, career advancement, promotion pathways, and professional development. She will also chair the Department Advisory Committee and help strengthen the department's commitment to fostering a supportive and transparent academic environment.
