Advanced Rehabilitation Technology (ART) Research Studio
Provide a collaborative space where translational researchers, students, and clinicians can work together for design, fabrication, application and functional testing. A space for creative development where patient testing alongside a technician is available. With the intent to propel mobility/functionality-improving patient outcomes, in clinical care and following into home use.
- Goals
1. Maintain an exceptional culture of acceptance
2. Achieve financial and operational success
3. Advance the mission of the Department of PM&R, the Craig H. Neilsen Rehabilitation Hospital, and our collaborators

NeuroRobotics Lab
Our research seeks to augment biological neural networks with artificial neural networks and bionic devices to treat neurological disorders and to further our understanding of neural processing. Working at the intersection of artificial intelligence, robotics, and neuroscience, we are developing biologically-inspired artificial intelligence and brain-machine interfaces to restore and/or enhance human function.
We are an interdisciplinary lab that is joint between the College of Engineering and the School of Medicine. We are affiliated with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, the Department of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, the Department of Biomedical Engineering, the Department of Mechanical Engineering, the Center for Neural Interfaces, and the Utah Robotics Center. We have with students from a variety of different disciplines: electrical engineering, biomedical engineering, mechanical engineering, civil engineering, computer science, rehabilitation science and neuroscience just to name a few!
