Why I Chose Utah: The Utah PM&R program had it all! I was impressed by the friendliness and the caliber of the faculty and residents. I was certain the training would prepare me to be a great physiatrist regardless of what area I decided to pursue. I was also excited to be able to train in the brand new and state of the art Craig H. Neilsen Rehabilitation Hospital. Additionally, I loved Salt Lake City and how it is such an active city with all of the outdoor activities that I love.

Interest/Hobbies: I enjoy skiing, camping, and mountain biking with my wonderful wife Melissa, and our dog Stan. I have a passion for adaptive sports and enjoying spending time in the outdoors with everyone. When I am not in the outdoors, I enjoy cooking, especially BBQ!
Why I Chose Utah: Utah is a special place. The PM&R program is full of amazing people, teachers, and programs such as TRAILS. There is nowhere else where you can train at a world-class institution and go Mountain biking out the front door of the hospital!

Why I Chose Utah: I rotated in Utah and absolutely loved the experience. The residents were extremely kind and hard-working. They went out of their way to make sure that I was having the best educational experience and I found this to be true of everyone I worked with at the University of Utah. At the U, there is a strong sense of striving to learn and being the best version of oneself in order to give patients the best care possible. I wanted to be surrounded by this as a resident. I was also drawn to Utah PM&R because of its well-rounded training with exposure to various subspecialties. I am also excited to bike, ski, and trail run out west!

Interest/Hobbies: I enjoy being out in nature and exploring the outdoors by hiking, backpacking, skiing and waterskiing whenever I get the chance. I also started a garden this year and am looking forward to some delicious home-grown produce.
Why I Chose Utah: I chose the University of Utah for it’s amazing faculty and the Division’s integration with the engineering colleges throughout the university. I knew I wanted to train with individuals that cared deeply about their patients and had a genuine curiosity in the medicine they were providing, and I found that in the faculty and residents I worked with during my rotation. I also wanted to choose a program that valued outdoor activity as much as work, and the opportunities to stay active and get into nature, while living in downtown SLC, are unparalleled.

Why I Chose Utah: I chose the University of Utah for the people, the place, and the program. Every attending, resident, and employee I met during my interview day was kind, down-to-earth, and genuinely happy to be a part of this program. There was also an obvious focus on work-life balance and well-being, something I believe is absolutely attainable in medicine. The program itself offers amazing opportunities in a variety of clinical environments, with the added ability of choosing from a number of different research projects to contribute to. I will also have the option to potentially pursue my current subspecialty interests of interventional spine and sports medicine here at University after completing residency. Lastly, it’s hard to beat the place where this all happens. Utah is beautiful, and there is an unparalleled access to the outdoors. Salt Lake City seems to have everything you would ever need, and the city is so close to so many different national parks and Western cities that weekend travel possibilities seem endless. Overall, I am extremely excited to be able to call Utah home for the near future, and to share this residency experience with my amazing co-residents!
